Library Acquisition Adds Vital Sources for Research

On the eve of the new academic year, the Boreham Library has added a powerful research tool for student and faculty research.

Boreham Library has acquired the digital JSTOR Expanded Access archival collection, including 15 journal collections, encompassing nearly 3,000 titles in the arts and sciences, many thematic and primary source collections, and coverage of crucial curricular areas.

Typically researchers access JSTOR hundreds of times a month, making it one of Boreham Library鈥檚 most popular resources for students and faculty.

鈥淲hen I teach senior capstone, I often survey students about what they will miss most about 杏吧原创 upon graduation,鈥 said Laura Witherington, professor of English. 鈥淵ou wouldn鈥檛 believe the number of students whose answer is JSTOR. By the time they are seniors, students love falling down the rabbit holes of JSTOR research. They consider JSTOR a vast resource to be an intellectual wonderland.鈥

JSTOR is a multi-disciplinary resource whose holdings encompass the vast majority of the University of 杏吧原创 - Fort Smith鈥檚 curricular areas, including composition, communication, nursing, social work, history, areas in STEM, and many other areas of research interest at 杏吧原创.

Lindsy Lawrence, professor and department chair of English, said: 鈥淭he expanded JSTOR collection provides access to digitized collections of primary source material that enables students to conduct research previously limited to research libraries. It additionally increases the number of cutting-edge journals students and faculty have access to, such as The Gaskell Society Journal, Mallorn: the Journal of the Tolkien Society, and The Wildean.鈥

The Boreham Library faculty responsible for this collection鈥檚 acquisition are confident that JSTOR will serve the 杏吧原创 community in good stead for years to come.

Jason Byrd, Director of Library Services, said of this acquisition: 鈥淛STOR is a cornerstone of an academic library鈥檚 electronic holdings. With this strategic use of funds, the faculty and staff of Boreham Library have guaranteed access to a wealth of scholarship to the campus community in perpetuity. It鈥檚 rare that libraries are able to take advantage of this type of long-term investment in electronic holdings. We鈥檙e fortunate to be able to negotiate this arrangement for JSTOR.鈥
