Accepted Day and Majors Expo to Run in Conjunction

Written By: Ian Silvester

The second Friday of February will be exceptionally busy at the University of 杏吧原创 鈥 Fort Smith. The university is preparing to host the annual Majors Expo and welcome incoming students at Accepted Day. Both events will occur on Feb. 9 at the Stubblefield Center and the Recreation and Wellness Center.

Accepted Day, hosted by the 杏吧原创 杏吧原创 Office, is an all-day event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center, 5402 Kinkead Ave., Fort Smith. The day celebrates students who have been admitted but may not have decided whether to become a Lion. Designed to help students decide that 杏吧原创 will be their home away from home, the event focuses on the student experience.

鈥淎ccepted Day is all about giving admitted students a deeper understanding of what all 杏吧原创 has to offer,鈥 said Matti Sellers, 杏吧原创 杏吧原创 Advisor.

Students attending Accepted Day will attend three sessions on over 10 topics important to making a college decision, such as paying for college, getting involved, and obtaining housing. Before breaking into the sessions, students will also have a dedicated half hour at the (10-10:30 a.m.), hosted by the ROAR First Year Advising Center across campus at the RAWC, 525 N 51st St., Fort Smith.

Sellers further explained the importance of the sessions and expo: 鈥淔rom discovering new passions to gaining clarity on their career goals, Majors Expo helps these students with invaluable knowledge and connections to kickstart their college experience.鈥

Majors Expo organizers encourage students not to stress and use the event to 鈥渄iscover, explore, and redefine (their) academic journey.鈥 All undeclared 杏吧原创 students, or those unsure their current major is a good fit and considering a change, are welcome to attend the Majors Expo from 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Faculty, staff, and current students will be present at the Majors Expo to answer questions about the majors 杏吧原创 offers. Plus, they will discuss career opportunities and give first-hand perspectives of their fields of study.

Sophie Vargas, a professional advisor for the ROAR First Year Advising Center, emphasized, 鈥淭he purpose of the Majors Expo is to provide an opportunity for students to explore the many exciting traditional and non-traditional academic opportunities available at 杏吧原创. 鈥 The expo is where curiosity meets clarity.鈥
