Campus closed Monday, January 22

Dear Lions,

This afternoon the 杏吧原创 Emergency Management Team met to assess potential impacts of the Ice Storm Warning issued by the , which forecasts significant freezing rain accumulation overnight and into the early morning hours across eastern Oklahoma and 杏吧原创. The NWS advises even minimal ice accumulation can create hazardous road conditions, severely impact commutes, and cause substantial power outages. Up to a half-inch of ice is expected for the River Valley overnight and conditions are likely to be treacherous until mid-day.

With this in mind, we have made the decision to close the campus and cancel all classes for Monday, January 22, 2024.

This is not a remote pivot. Employees will be paid using Inclement Weather Leave, which will be added to Workday by the Department of Human Resources. Employees should NOT enter their own inclement weather leave. Campus buildings will be locked with the exception of the Boreham Library 24-hour lab, the Lion鈥檚 Den dining hall, and campus housing.

Employees who have questions about their specific work should contact their direct supervisors.

Additional information is below:

  • Campus Safety: University Police will remain on campus to assist with emergencies and will continually evaluate the condition of roads and sidewalks on campus. UPD can be contacted at their non-emergency line: 788-7140 or upd@uafs.edu. UPD advises staying off roads unless it is absolutely necessary and keeping your cell phones charged to ensure you are safe and prepared during this time.
  • Plant Operations: Plant Operations staff will be on call as needed to check buildings on campus for winter-weather-related issues or respond to facility repair needs, as well as ensure sidewalks are cleared for campus residents.
  • Boreham Library: The Boreham Library will be closed. Students will still have access to the 24-hour lab.
  • Housing and Dining: Each housing facility will have a Resident Assistant (RA) on call throughout the closure to assist with resident needs. The Lion鈥檚 Den Dining Hall will transition to Brunch (10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and Dinner (4:30-6 p.m.) hours, and the Campus Center Food Court will close. Plant Operations will prioritize clearing sidewalks between housing and dining halls.

Additional Facility Closures

  • Classes will not be held at the PEAK Innovation Center, the Center for Economic Development at the Bakery District, or the Little Lions Child Development Center.
